Deep Forest has been one of my favorite ambient world music groups for years. This song “Deep Forest” from their debut album features a 93 year old pigmy woman singing in the Baku language.

5:00 Cocktail Hour Sounds: Iron Butterfly – In a Gadda Da Vida
Long story behind this one… it was late 1968 in Braunschwieg Germany. I was with GI friends at a gasthaus called the Pferdeställ (Horse Stables) . The DJ put this song on and I HAD to know what it was. He spoke no English, but said ganz neu (brand new) and showed me the album cover. I bought the album the next day!
As an aside, the Pferdeställ shared backrooms with the Wall Straße prostitutes. I learned that during an after hours party when I went looking for the toilette and instead ended up in one of their rooms! All the rooms sported big picture Windows so customer hopefuls could view the various ladies of the night. There I was, a young wet behind the ears GI… in the spotlight with a half naked hooker! She and several others had a good chuckle helping me find the toilette!!!
Memories are pretty foggy, but I probably had fun!
Dedicated to our neighbor… Nancy is always there and ready to help… No matter how big or small… Thank you Nancy!
Kick back and mellow out psytrance music…
Hoopy Frood with their song “Sequence” from the album Psychonaut.
You absolutely MUST use headphones, ear buds, or good speakers with this! It sounds awful with a tinny smartphone speaker!
Sucker Punch is one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s a great fantasy adventure and the actresses are total babes!
But the soundtrack stands out enough to make the movie. Army of One sung by Bork is IMHO the best song, the other covers are amazing and easily stand on their own.
Sweet Dreams, originally sung by Annie Lennox, covered in the soundtrack by Emily Browning is one of the many examples of the awesomeness of the Sucker Punch soundtrack.
Tikal is another fairly obscure group I listen to regularly. This song “Canicule” from their Ritual Cycle album has almost an ancient Peruvian or even Aztec sound that I really like. The whole album is on my exercise play list.
Listen as the song slowly adds more and more elements and builds…
Headphones suggested!
Panta Rhei is another obscure group I particularly enjoy. The album “Rainbow Dancer” is a trip to the seven continents… an excellent melding of world music.
This cut, one of my favorites, is today’s offering. A look at Australia and strongly featuring the didgeridoo, a great example of Panta Rhei’s talent.
So I was perusing second-hand stores today and actually found a Raspberry Beret!
Listen or download Raspberry Beret for free on Pleer
I was working part time in a five-and-dime
My boss was mr. mcgee
He told me several times that he didn’t like my kind
Cause I was a bit 2 leisurely
Seems that I was busy doing something close 2 nothing
But different than the day before
That’s when I saw her, ooh, I saw her
She walked in through the out door, out door
She wore a
Raspberry beret
The kind u find in a second hand store
Raspberry beret
And if it was warm she wouldn’t wear much more
Raspberry beret
I think I love her
